Nokomis glaze Red Wing art pottery display 

Golden State Red Wing member Evelyn Stein's collection of Nokomis wins "Best of Show" & "Peoples Choice" awards at 2008 Red Wing Collectors Society convention.


Red Wing produced Nokomis glazed pottery from 1929 to 1934.  18 shapes were glazed with this semi-matte finish in blended tones 

Nokomis is a Native American Ojibwe name. In the Ojibwe languagenookomis means "my grandmother," - Ojibwe lands were located along the Mississippi River & included Red Wing Minnesota. ILongfellow's poem, "The Song of Hiawatha"Nokomis is the name of Hiawatha's grandmother in the familiar lines "By the shores of Gitche Gumee,  By the shining Big-Sea-Water,  Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,  Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis." 4
