Golden State Red Wing member Evelyn Stein's collection of Nokomis wins "Best of Show" & "Peoples Choice" awards at 2008 Red Wing Collectors Society convention.

Red Wing produced Nokomis glazed pottery from 1929 to 1934.  18 shapes were glazed with this semi-matte finish in blended tones 

Nokomis is a Native American Ojibwe name. In the Ojibwe language, nookomis means "my grandmother," - Ojibwe lands were located along the Mississippi River & included Red Wing Minnesota. In Longfellow's poem, "The Song of Hiawatha", Nokomis is the name of Hiawatha's grandmother in the familiar lines "By the shores of Gitche Gumee,  By the shining Big-Sea-Water,  Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,  Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis." ⁴
