A 12 step process is needed to make each piece of stoneware with an advertising stamp. Shown is the process used to make stoneware badges by Golden State Red Wing in 1999.
Three main companies produced stoneware using this process in Red Wing, MN: Red Wing Stoneware (1877-1906), Minnesota Stoneware (1883-1906) and North Star Stoneware (1892-1896). In 1894 the three companies formed a sales cooperative called the Union Stoneware Company (1894-1906) for economic efficiency, bringing together distribution costs including order processing, fulfillment and shipping. Red Wing Stoneware and Minnesota Stoneware bought out North Star in 1896. In 1906 they merged to become Red Wing Union Stoneware. In 1936 they changed the name to Red Wing Potteries, Inc.
